Tandem Jump in Maine

Maine puts two landscapes under the airplane door at once: the broken Atlantic coastline, all islands and coves, and the ancient forest that runs inland until it hits the White Mountains. From altitude on a clear day, tandem students pick out lighthouses, fishing villages, and the blue seam where the Gulf of Maine meets the shore. It is a lot of geography for one canopy ride.

Most Maine drop zones run from late spring into early fall, when the weather cooperates. That window is where Accelerated Freefall (AFF) students do their work, ground school, then a graded series of coached jumps that carry a first-timer from solo freefall toward an A-license. The stable inland air is forgiving to learn in, and instructors use it to drill canopy control and body position without fighting the sky.
