North Carolina hands skydivers a lot of terrain to fall through. The Appalachian foothills roll up in the west, the coastal plains flatten toward the Outer Banks in the east, and in between sit Charlotte and Raleigh under a patchwork of forest and farmland. Drop zones spread across all of it, so the view from altitude depends entirely on where you exit, green ridgelines one weekend, the Atlantic horizon the next.

First-timers get well-run tandem programs across the state. You're clipped to an experienced instructor, given a short briefing, and then it's freefall and a canopy ride with nothing to manage but where you look. Many facilities fly modern aircraft and keep the operation tight, which makes a first jump about as approachable as a first jump gets, for a curious local or someone driving in for the weekend.
