Skydiving in Missouri

Missouri gives skydivers a mix of ground to fly over. The Ozark Plateau folds up in the south; the plains flatten out along the Missouri River. Sitting in the middle of the country, the state pulls jumpers in from neighboring states too, which keeps its scene busy and its zones stocked for everyone from a first tandem student to a veteran chasing an advanced rating.

First tandem here comes with the full setup: experienced instructors, current gear, and a ground briefing built to settle your nerves before the door opens. The ground below is a quilt of farm fields, bending rivers, and far-off skylines. Zones near St. Louis and Kansas City are the easiest to reach and tend to run the bigger operations.

Anyone serious about the sport can enter an Accelerated Freefall (AFF) program at several USPA-affiliated Missouri zones. The progression is structured: instructor-assisted freefall first, then a steady handoff toward jumping on your own. Missouri's season runs spring through fall, long enough to move through the AFF levels without a stall, with coaches and a supportive crowd behind you.

Licensed jumpers passing through find zones that roll out the welcome. Many run events and load organizing and keep gear rentals and packing areas on hand. The weather cooperates for a good chunk of the year (clear skies and moderate temperatures, especially in the shoulder seasons), and the local culture leans hard on safety, camaraderie, and getting better.
