Coached Jump in Hawaii

The exit door opens over Oahu and the whole archipelago tilts into view: the North Shore's break-lined beaches, the green wall of the Ko'olau Range, and the Pacific running out past the reef in every shade of blue. Hawaii's drop zones sell that picture, but the islands also set the terms. Trade winds, sudden coastal cloud, and airspace shared with heavy military and commercial traffic all shape when tandem, AFF, and licensed jumpers actually get in the plane.

First-timers come for the tandem jump, and it needs little more than a ground briefing before you're clipped to an instructor and stepping out at 10,000 or 12,000 feet. Most operations launch from airfields close to the coast, so the view starts the moment the door slides open. The trade winds and warm air keep drop zones running through much of the year, though local weather off the Waianae Mountains can rearrange a day's schedule without much notice.
